Volunteer

We're putting together a team for events, membership and fundraising. If you would like to be part of this, we would love to hear from you.

At any one time there can be as many as 50 active volunteers involved in BHA's work. It is a mark of the commitment of our members and the importance placed by so many in preserving the Harbour’s unique character that so many are prepared to give up their valuable time.

To make our volunteers feel valued, to enable appropriate health and safety controls and to provide an identifiable management structure,  our volunteering activities are broken down into four distinct categories each with its own committee and chairman.

Our key work is implementing, managing and maintaining buoyage and Harbour infrastructure which is undertaken by the Harbour Buoyage and Infrastructure Committee and chaired by Charlie Ward.

In addition, the Membership and Fundraising Committee chaired by Sarah Green, continues to drive membership numbers, both individual and corporate, ensuring that the BHA is truly representative of local residents, the local economy, traditional activities in the Harbour and its very many visitors.  The committee is responsible for promoting BHA through its literature, social media and website.

As a National Nature Reserve and area of Special Scientific Interest it is essential that the environment is given proper consideration. Here Neil Thompson and his team on the Environment Committee are continually dealing with the challenges of disposing of non-degradable fibreglass wrecks and abandoned boats (in partnership with the National Trust) while at the same time helping members dispose of out of date flares, providing advice on pumping out and much more.

Jason Bean manages our Harbour Wardens team whose job it is to point out when standards of safety and boatmanship aren't quite what they should be!

Finally, the Audit Committee chaired by Greg Cooper provides invaluable professional advice and guidance to the Board of Trustees and the various operational committees.

We are particularly keen to recruit volunteers to support our Membership and Fundraising efforts and members with PR and marketing experience.
